Well, where do we start? Last month was a real doozy. We elected Barack Obama as the 44th president of the United States in a landslide as the economy continued to circle the drain. Money was thrown in huge amounts at banks and other lending institutions and major corporations lined up with their hands out looking for their share of the loot. Major corporations lost jobs in record numbers and the auto industry saw its stocks plunge to prices that where last seen more than 40 years ago. With the Auto Industry hooked up to the morphine drip, they came to Washington on their private jets looking for 25 billion dollars with no explanation of what they would do with the money. They were sent home with empty pockets to figure it out for themselves. But have no fear as they will be back again shortly. Reading last months horoscope pretty much spelled out the circumstances of the month and once more validated the merits of astrology.  So, with that in mind, what will this months New Moon bring to the table other than Thanksgiving and Christmas? 
This month the New Moon leaves the sixth house of jobs, unions and work conditions and moves on to the tenth house of the government itself, those in power, our national prestige and destiny, and how the nation is seen by the rest of the world. Located smack dead on the midheaven of this powerful horoscope is a quadruple conjunction of the Sun, Moon, Mercury and Mars. In addition to the affairs these planets prefer to deal with they are also the ruling planets of the seventh house of our partners and open enemy's,  the sixth house of jobs, the fourth house of home and real estate values, (also new beginnings) and the second house of money and the economy. Do you think those subjects might take center stage again this month?  In addition to all that, we have Neptune conjunct the ascendant and big bad Pluto, who is still smarting from his demotion from planetary status, entering Capricorn, the sign of the government.  The citizens of the land of freedom are tired of the mess of the last four months and are more than ready for the audacity of hope to engulf the land heralding the new era in Americas history that is about to unfold. The current quadruple conjunction holds the promises of a powerful month of change but it is just the opening act for January's New Moon when we will have six planets hovering around the ascendant. Wow, what a chart.  But this column is about this month so let us begin.
With Mercury and Mars conjunct the midheaven, the auto and transportation industry and manufacturing in general, along with the military, fire and police departments, should all find their way to the front pages of the news this month. We know that the Big 3 auto makers are due to return to Washington begging for money.  With a lack of negative aspects to these planets, they will get what they want. With the ruler of the fourth up in tenth, home sales, values and mortgages will also be a major topic of discussion at the governmental level.
Venus is another important planet this month as it is conjunct Jupiter, trine Saturn and sextile Uranus. Venus rules the eighth house of this chart which deals with the national debt, taxes, credit, the insurance industry and corporate finances.   Keep in mind that it was the New Moon in this same sector just four months ago that ushered us into this economic mess.  Can you say AIG?. They and their like will be back, again and again, wanting and getting more and more and more bail out dollars.  However, because the conjunction is right on the cusp of the twelfth house, and because Neptune is conjunct the ascendant, I think that the wool is being pulled over our eyes to the tune of billions and billions of dollars.  On the other hand, the twelfth house position of Venus conjunct Jupiter, along with the trine to Saturn along with the ruler of the sixth house of work and jobs conjunct the midheaven, tells me that steps will be taken behind the scenes that will lay the ground work to improve the unemplument figures. Unemployment benefits will be extended, again.  In fact, many programs will be sold to us now on the basis of job growth. We won't see any real results yet but the pieces are being put together this month. We, as a people, will see the results shortly after the new president takes office.
But, the primary focus for this month, is the government itself. This is a powerful chart and it reflects the quality of the changes going on at the top. The political pundits on my TV are saying that President elect Obama is in the process of putting the highest quality people he can find in place to handle an economic problem that is bigger than most people realize.  The public wants to believe that things will improve and with Neptune on the ascendant, they will find it easier to believe. In fact, with Neptune on the horizon, hope and idealism will be the dish of the day and the nation will respond positively. But everything will not be rosy and none of our problems will actually be solved this month. In fact, I am more than suspicious of the present government and its actions and expect some sort of chicanery or scandal (Neptune) coming to light as their time winds down.  The good news is that a new government is being formed behind the scenes right now and every indication is that it is a very talented and hard working gathering. 
With Aquarius rising and its ruler Uranus occupying the first house, America will once again be seen as the progressive, free thinking and innovative leader of the free world. The champion of humane rights, America's image abroad will be showing signs of regaining the respect that we have lost. With Saturn in the house of our open enemy's and its ruler up in the tenth conjunct militaristic Mars, we can expect our enemy's to take steps that will challenge the new president elect. With Neptune on the horizon of this horoscope, America is in search of peace and not war.  Neptune has no fight in him as this is the planet of peace and escapism. However, with Uranus opposite Saturn and the New Moon conjunct Mars, aggressive posturing against our country would not be a wise move on their part. Not wise at all. But I do expect to see some form of a posturing on the part of opur enemys.
And finally, I would like to mention Pluto's entrance into Capricorn the sign of the government and our leaders. This is a significant ingress as Pluto will, over the next few years, become involved in powerful square aspects with both Saturn and Uranus. When Pluto was first discovered and astrologers were falling all over themselves figuring it out, the first interpretation that I remember assigned to it was the phrase, "death, decay and regeneration."  Pluto was seen as the planet that eliminated what was to bring about transformative change. Now change can be simple and easy or it can be hard and destructive. However you look at it change is change. As Dane Rudhyar once said, "Change plows deep the contented soils of yesterday." Pluto will transit Capricorn from now until the year 2024 transforming forever our form of government. When was Pluto last in Capricorn? From 1762 to 1777. Did anything significant involving the governmental happen back then?  Ever hear of a little thing called the American Revolution? It was in all the papers. And we weren't the only ones as people all over the world began to shift from the feudal form of government that held sway for hundreds of years toward democracy and new forms of government that acknowledged, for the first time, the will of the people. The next 16 years will see profound change in the way governments are run and keep in mind what we said about change plowing deep the contented soils of yesterday. Are you ready for change? Real change? You better be as it is just around the corner. The next 8 years are just the very earliest signs of the future to come.
