The Aspects

We have just learned that aspects exist when two planets are separated by certain specific distances. But do they have to be exactly that distance apart? No, they do not. This is because the planets effect a small area around their position in a horoscope. This area is known to astrologers as the planets "orb of influence". Astrologers have minor disagreements as do professionals in every complex field and one of them concerns the orb of influence. Different astrologers will assign different orbs though all are very close and only differ by a very few degrees. Some astrologers will allow normal (six to eight degree) orbs of influence for the inner planets and very small orbs of two or three degrees for aspects between the outer and slower moving planets, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Other astrologers will allow different orbs of influence for different aspects. For example six, seven or eight degrees for a major square aspect but only one, two or three degrees for the minor quincux aspect. In all cases the closer the aspect the more powerful and obvious are its effects. Any major aspect that is within five degrees of exactness is considered by all astrologers to be operating in a very powerful and obvious manner in the individual.

they had to overcame which is a;ways inspirational in nature and helps contribute to their fame. This is a very important fact to remember.
As you have just read, there are aspects between planets when they are exactly 0, 60, 90, 120 and 180 degrees apart or 0, 2, 3, 4 and 6 signs apart. So what happened to 1 and 5 signs or 30 and 150 degrees apart? Wouldn't it be simpler if there was an aspect every thirty degrees? Actually, there are aspects every thirty degrees. There is one minor aspect at thirty degrees or one sign apart called a semi-sextile and another minor aspect at one hundred and fifty degrees or five signs apart called a quincux. However, these are minor aspects. Other minor aspects include the  semi-square which is half of a square or when planets are 45 degrees apart and the sesquiquadrate which is in effect when planets are135 degrees apart. To the left is a picture of all the aspects both major and minor.

when two planets are four signs or one hundred and twenty degrees from each other while an opposition occurs when two planets are six signs apart or exactly opposite each other in the horoscope. Planets in opposition are one hundred and eighty degrees from each other. Conjunctions represents points of power in a horoscope and could be operating in either a positive or negative manner depending on how the planets involved get along with each other. Sextile's and trines are treated as positive aspects and indicate to the astrologer that the individual has the capacity to easily use the mutually positive energies of the planets involved to their benefit.  Square and opposition aspects are considered negative when found in a chart.      An aspect is the relationship between any two points in a horoscope. The planets are in aspect to each other and to the ascendant and midheaven of the horoscope. Aspects also apply to the nodes, minor planets, asteroids, fixed stars, arabic parts or any other exotic point you choose to use  in your horoscope. So, aspects are the angular relationship between any two points in a horoscope. They are a vital part of reading the horoscope because they represent the combined effect of two or more celestial bodies.  The primary and more powerful aspects that are used by all astrologers are the conjunction, sextile, square, trine and opposition.
