instinctively use her ability to communicate and gather information (Gemini) to accomplish this task.    Always remember that the planetary pattern will represent the foundation, the bedrock if you will, upon which the rest of a horoscope is dependant.  

Her rising sign and ruling planet indicate that Oprah appears to others to be a studious, detail oriented and naturally practical individual. Highly methodical, she can work well with routine and if necessary can devise practical systems to accomplish her needs. And remember that her task in life is to achieve recognition. Born with a natural desire to be of service, she appears to be a neat and fastidious person. She needs to be sure not to become too fussy and picky which will detract from her more positive qualities, alienate others and hurt her relationships.  One of Oprah's primary interests (Ruling planet in the 6th house) is her job and the concept of being of service to others.  Health and nutrition could also be important concerns.  She easily and harmoniously expresses a responsible and mature quality (Saturn in a positive aspect to the ascendant) which others see as serious, ambitious, dependable and reliable. She easily expresses a no nonsense (Saturn) nature which is willing to work long and hard to endure. If anything she try's too hard and does too much. (Jupiter square the ascendant) I get a feeling from all this that Oprah is an efficient, hard worker who can concentrate on the details and get things done. Flighty would not describe her. Neither would irresponsible or lazy. She probably needs to be sure she doesn't get too picky about relatively trivial matters and she probably gets too easily lost in details. In addition, I would think she changes her moods a bit more often than the average person due to the aspect between her Moon and ascendant. She probably believes change is a woman's prerogative. She may also have some personal relationship issues.  Pictures are starting to appear in my mind concerning this horoscope. How about you?  Now let's look at the Sun and see what clues we can gain concerning not how she appears to others (her rising sign) but rather what her truest and most basic self is all about.

She is original, intelligent, inventive, progressive and easily attracted to causes that improve humanity. Her most basic self easily applies its ego and will to the job. (Sun in 6th) She is in fact probably very good at what she does. She has pride (the Sun) in her work (sixth house) and expects recognition for her well-developed, craftsman like skills. (Sun in the sixth) Health is probably an important concern and nutrition should be studied.  Her most basic self is harmonious, cooperative, social and popular. (Sun conjunct Venus) She is also  proud of her artistic ability, is somewhat vain and probably very sensuous. She also knows how to present herself in the best possible light. Born with good luck (Sun trine Jupiter) and a sense of humor, she is well liked, well traveled and has the Midas touch.  She is proud of her moral and religious convictions and should become very successful in life. (Sun trine both Jupiter and the midheaven) However, inner tensions indicate that ambition and a workaholic attitude could drive her to accomplish but at the expense of the expression of some of the more pleasurable areas of life such as children, romance or hobbies. (Saturn ruler of the fifth house square the Sun) At her most basic core this is obviously a really nice person. (Sun aspecting Venus and Jupiter) Add these attributes to what we already know from her ascendant, (that she appears to be an efficient, practical, ambitious and responsible person who is really into her job,) add a trine from the Sun to the midheaven and keep in mind that at her core she was born with a drive for recognition and this woman should be more than successful in life. Why? Because she is driven, hard working and very likable. In fact with Virgo rising, the ruling planet in the sixth house of work, the Sun also in the sixth and her locomotive pattern of planets, she has to be so into her work, her job and her sense of service, that I wonder if there is room in her life for much of anything else. I’m beginning to get the feeling that we may have a real workaholic here, a workaholic who is also friendly and artistic. Oprah's horoscope certainly indicates that she was born with many great quality's. But, like everybody else, there are problems here also. The Sun square Saturn (the ruler of her fifth house) is one we have already discussed. Pluto square Mars from the twelfth house of sorrow and loss is another. Without the Sun's conjunction to Venus and trine to Jupiter and the Moon's sextile of gentle Venus, Oprah would have a temper that could border on being ruthless and brutal. But, she does has those calming and gentle aspects and so Mars square Pluto must work in other problematic ways indicating strong and negative sexual difficulty's - particularly with brothers, cousins, nephews and similar relatives along with the occasional, and surprisingly blunt, show of displeasure and anger. Oprah has talked on her show many times of being raped in her youth by a cousin. In life we all have our difficulty's but Oprah overcame hers and used all of her horoscope to the fullest extent possible to live the life and accomplish the things that she has. 

It has been said that, "If you accept only lifes pleasures and not its pains then you will laugh but with not all of your laughter and you will cry but not with all of your tears." Well, Oprah has laughed with all her laughter and cried with all her tears. She has lived her horoscope to its fullest. From her compassion for others and its resulting generosity (Neptune in the second house of money trine Mercury) to her enormous earning capacity, (Venus, ruler of her second house conjunct the Sun) to her extreme success, Jupiter her lead planet in the tenth house of recognition, status, authority, honor and fame, trine her Sun and her incredible work ethic (Virgo rising with her ruler in the sixth house of work along with a Sun Venus conjunction in the sixth) Oprah was born with the drive to fix a problem or accept a task; a task of accomplishment. (Locomotion Pattern with Jupiter as her lead planet in the tenth) From Oprah's book club, (Gemini on her tenth house) to her publishing empire, (Jupiter in the tenth) Oprah has embodied her horoscope. I am reminded again of the words of Benjamin Franklin when he said, "Oh the wonderful knowledge to be found in the stars. Even the smallest things are written there - if you had but skill to read."

A quick examination of Oprah's horoscope indicates that at her birth the planets were in what Marc Edmund Jones called a Locomotive Pattern with Jupiter in Gemini and the tenth house acting as the leading planet. The Locomotive Pattern is found in the horoscopes of those born with drive. They are endowed with a strong sense of a problem to be solved or to achieve some great task. In addition, she will instinctively use her lead planet, Jupiter to resolve that problem or accomplish  that task. What is her quest?
