People want to learn astrology for many reasons. To be honest, the pursuit of knowledge was not my primary goal as I purchased that first small astrology book so many years ago. Like many stories in a young mans life this one begins with those often used five little words, “Once there was this girl.”  You see that book was actually a gift for an astrologically oriented young lady who was the object of my affections at the time. I selected a book with a small plastic dial attached to the front cover that allowed her to place the Sun and Moon in the proper sign and house of a horoscope and read what they meant in easy to understand terms. As we applied the information that little book contained to everyone whose birth information we could find, I found myself becoming increasingly aware that what I had thought was the key to her heart was actually the most fascinating subject I had ever encountered.  Over and over again the readings in that little book clearly indicated the basic personality and primary characteristics of every individual we applied it to. It soon became obvious that astrology was not the starry eyed foolishness I had been led to believe. Instead, it became more than evident that astrology was perfectly capable of unveiling ones basic strengths and weaknesses with a purity of purpose normally reserved for those gifted few who routinely communicate with the Gods. Completely entranced, I went back to that store the very next day, bought the biggest astrology book they had,  devoured it, and moved from the little town in Maine where I had recently set up residence back to New York City to find a good astrology teacher.
Who could have known that those two little books would so completely alter my life at that particular moment? You could have. All you would have needed was my horoscope and the ability to read it. You would then have noticed that Uranus was transiting my Sun Neptune conjunction high in the ninth house of my horoscope and was rapidly heading to my midheaven making it all so very obvious to those who understand such matters.
